Joannie studied in journalism and photography and has a deep love for life and the incredible people she meets along the way. For her, making documentaries is all about magic and connection—an art of encounter where people and their stories take center stage.

She finds joy in life’s simple pleasures, like riding her bike downhill to feel the wind in her hair, spending days reading and wandering in nature, celebrating solstices and equinoxes, crying at the movies, swimming for hours, watching shooting stars, marveling at synchronicities and admiring modern architecture. She is amused and surprise to now be called “madam” just because the passions that inhabit her as an adult remain the same as those she had as a child—playing, creating, and observing the world around her with curiosity and wonder.

Through her humanist practice, she seeks to highlight the eloquence and beauty of everyday life, fostering the intention of being a bridge between the different communities she has the privilege and joy of engaging with. She delights in bringing unique individuals into the spotlight through meaningful collaborations with community organizations and schools, creating projects that encourage dialogue and connection.

As a photographer, her work has been exhibited in museums, galleries, and numerous media outlets. As a filmmaker, her previous films have been screened on television, in cinemas, and at various Canadian and international festivals.

Many of her projects, exhibitions, and artistic residencies have been supported by Quebec and Canadian institutions (Conseil des Arts et des Lettres du Québec, Canada Council for the Arts, ACIC, SODEC, Téléfilm Canada), for which she feels deeply privileged and grateful.

Joannie divides her time between her meaningful profession, her activities with the elderly, her cherished relationships, and her nourishing walks in nature. She loves to play, create, connect, contemplate, and collaborate in Tiohtià:ke and wherever life takes her.
